There’s the idol, the dancing, Moses’ breaking of the tablets of the Law in disgust. But there’s another part of the story we might not be too familiar with as Moses foreshadows Christ in a striking way.

This morning we complete our series on temptation with a look at the third temptation Jesus faced in the wilderness. As Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, “all this I will give you if you bow down and worship me.” Isn’t that why Jesus came? Aren’t all the nations of the world and their splendor His rightful inheritance as the Son of God? It’s the temptation to get to the right place, the wrong way. It’s the temptation to take shortcuts.
Harvest’s Youth Go To Work in South Carolina…..

On July 21st, 13 short term missionaries were sent out on behalf of Harvest Community to Conway, South Carolina to accomplish the work God had set before them to do. This week’s experience will undoubtedly leave great memories on those 13 for a lifetime.
The organization “Team Effort” had pre-arranged living quarters, food & drink, work to be done, and
evening worship and devotionals. With the combined total of over 70 young people plus leaders and adults this had to have been a huge task! The living quarters were held at a local Episcopal Church in their auditorium and class rooms. Personal privacy was a little lacking ( I got to sleep between a wall of suitcases and Jim Reser…..enough said). Food and drink were provided by local people of the church, which was great, breakfast grits and all. The work list was comprised of VBS leaders, athletic field maintenance, scraping and painting, building and roofing.
Our Harvest group spent our time at Waccamaw Boys Home (a place for displaced boys from broken homes). Several of our group spent hours scraping and repainting railings and walkways around the main home while the rest of the grouped worked on a new building weather wrapping, exterior framing, and roofing.
By Thursday afternoon our work was done “enough” so we were allowed fun and relaxation the rest of the week. Our group spent a great time swimming in the Atlantic, miniature golfing, listening to folklore stories in an old mansion, and gorging ourselves at an all-you-can-eat buffet called “Hog Heaven.”
This all being said, I would like to share with you as a church body the great pride I have for our youth group. God had called this group to serve Him this past week in a way that was far from comfortable. Two days we had over 100 degree temps, the humidity was high and the clouds were sparse. The work was demanding and needed to be done and our kids stepped up to the challenge and gave it their all. The Team Effort staff as well as the general contractor were amazed at what we had accomplished, and I do believe God was represented in our work.
I enjoyed the closeness, friendship, fun, goofyness, and love our youth group has for each other - seldom found in these times. I can’t begin to
tell you the admiration, respect, and thanks I have for our youth leaders. God has used you mightily in our kids. Best of all, I witnessed Christian faith in our kids that is huge. It is comforting for me to know that the next generation will have representatives like our kids to be leaders, parents, missionaries, and laborers for the cause of Christ. Thanks be to our loving God.
